manhunter captures the feeling of a sickeningly humid summer night. anytime will graham is onscreen, trying to dig into the psyche of the killer, his distress feels just like waking up from a nightmare, sweaty and disturbed, flinging your covers off the bed. the only scenes which feel different are the ones in lecktor’s cell, which are cold, bright, sterile, and terrifying in their own way.

i used to think that moonstruck was just a fun, silly movie to watch with my family, but after seeing it for probably the sixth or seventh time, now on the big screen, it’s clear that moonstruck really displays mastery of the craft in every aspect. the pacing of the first half of the movie is perfect, while it does dip slightly in the second half before coming back in the last 20 minutes. lou lombardo’s editing serves the story…
