  Takes so man cliches in this genre and subverts or reframes them. I love the magic trick of the last act, where the audience suddenly realizes that we've been watching JAWS in space this whole time.

  If this film were a piece of furniture, it would be a grandfather clock - every piece of it is intentional, everything serves a purpose, everything is lovingly crafted, and a few times an hour it makes a loud fucking noise and something pops out at you for no goddamn reason. 
  Sparse jump scares aside, this is a modern classic.
