Rosie’s review published on Letterboxd:
This film was a well-balanced comedy-drama that was a tender true story. Awkwafina stars as Billi, a Chinese American woman who returns to China when she hears her grandmother has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. She struggles with the family’s decision to not tell the grandmother while staging a wedding for their final farewell. Surprisingly pleasant performance from Awkwafina, and of course the rest of the cast was wonderful. It was never too sad or too funny. The film felt natural without having to resort to over-the-top jokes for lightened moments. There were generational and culture clashes, felt familiar and it wasn't handled heavy-handed. I did feel the length and some parts felt drawn out. It’s a sorrowful situation and has a cathartic ending. I liked it.
