Includes some from 2016 and occasionally earlier if they weren't available for viewing in North America until 2017.
My sources were Metacritic's "The Best Movies of 2017"; Metacritic's "Best of 2017: Film Critic Top 10 Lists"; the "Arts & Faith Top 10 Films of 2017"; and a few other random ones I came across in other articles or via IMDb's "People who liked this also liked..." feature. Then I weeded out the ones that I would never want to see personally.
My judgment of whether a movie that at least one critic liked is worth seeing is entirely subjective. If it's of universal acclaim and award-winning/nominated, I'll probably want to see it regardless of genre, though I really don't care for certain types at all (e.g., zombie apocalypse). Otherwise I tend to favor Art House, Foreign, Documentary, and films with some Spiritual/Soul Food content.
