The found footage thing really works for Cloverfield as it increases its intensity, which is really high at the beginning. Unfortunately the movie is unable to sustain said intensity past the first 15 minutes. We have no idea what the creature is for just two minutes, and then we just... see it, and there goes our imagination’s work.
The characters are also hard to believe - honestly who would have the composure to film everything in the midst of an apocalypse ? And who would go back to find a girl even though the building collapsed ??
But overall it’s good for what it is, even refreshing at times, and I’m glad I saw it.
