Favorite Films of 2019

As the end of the decade draws near, bringing with it a horde of smaller but no less significant endings and transitions, perhaps it's no coincidence that I've found myself drawn to films that are concerned, in one fashion or another, with the end of something – the end of a life or stage of life, the end of a relationship, the end of an era. Each one of these films has spoken to my experience of time’s griefs and joys this year. They are laments for the way Kronos gives with one hand and takes with the other, memorials to fleeting moments, and prayers that ache for eternity.
