Beanpole ★★★½

It's long, strange and depressing, which is exactly what to expect from a Russian arthouse film, but it was hard to tell where the problems to find its footing began and where the deliberate coldness ended. Certainly distinctly looking, with the sepia graded to accentuate greens and reds, as well as the thorough art direction that envelops you into that universe. Good, yet I'd have loved to see a version of this that veered off towards horror.
