Loving ★★★★

Exactly the flip side to the real-life story prestige adaptation of something like 'Hacksaw Ridge'. Whereas Gibson amped every tiny factual detail for the maximum spectacle, Nichols appears to prefer the complete opposite by actively undercutting court scenes to tenderly capture the apprehension as well as the mutual caring of a simple couple that despite having their intimate lives spotlighted by a nationally relevant case, still would much prefer to return to a comfortable anonymity. Negga's considerably better than Egerton, who's also competent, and Shannon, with less than five minutes of screen time, superbly sells the most memorable moment of the film.
