The Look of Silence

The Look of Silence ★★★★½

Sneakily devastating. The calm, wisdom and guts necessary to conceive a more straightforward confrontational piece than Act of Killing on the people responsible for a genocide is monumental. To witness the perplexing rational juggling of the killers' side right after the reveal is a powerful experience handled so tastefully by the film, it's even possible to potentially comprehend from where they're coming from. It's definitely quieter and less cathartic than its companion doc, but it's every bit as important and a fantastic reminder of the gargantuan relevance of the genre for reflecting on history.
