Ryan St. Hilaire’s review published on Letterboxd:
Tarkovsky has created moving poetry with Stalker. One of the most dense and difficult experiences I’ve had watching a film.
Visually, its captivating. Cinematography and framing is absolutely mouth watering. Narratively, completely compelling. Characters and plot have a ton of depth... it just didn’t connect with me personally. Its a meandering film, with a long runtime and a very slow pace. Much less of a film and more of an experience.
I wouldn’t be opposed to revisit this in the future, but for now it just isn’t completely for me. Its full of deep religious meanings and metaphors that went way over my head. I’m not denying it’s impact, because i can see why people gush over this. Still excited to explore more Tarkovsky, though.
