agnès varda never fails to amaze me! this was so beautiful, i loved every bit of it! the tarot reading as the title sequence effortlessly set the backstory—such an excellent exposition. not to mention the references to bad omens and superstition, clèo’s fabulous apartment, kittens, life-affirming conversations, the wardrobe and the naturalism that agnès captured through her camera. the simplicity blew me away. …
mind-boggling, unsettling and so incredibly stunning.
such stellar performances by willem dafoe and robert pattinson. i found myself agitated as the two men descended into madness—a frenzied state of desire. piling their needs yet none fulfilled. nothing but frustration that blooms through pure hate and anger.
i went into this film rather blind, excluding some quotes that i had read out of context. one thing i did have in mind was this poem i read in school called “flannan isle”…
