Gotta ignore the abundant racism, the rape, the fact that we got to see nothing of the all-female car workshop, and whatever the hell the pig sequence was, but once you do, it's pretty entertaining! My religious mam loved it.
I don't understand how this movie still manages to skeeve me out. This is the third time I've seen it. I've read it twice. I've seen a play based on the book. I've analysed it once before. I am, in other words, very familiar with the plot. It's not really that scary. The cinematography is clunky in the way horrors from the fifties/sixties usually are. And yet! Here I am. Properly skeeved. Good shit.
