Russell Hainline’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's amazing that I've reached the point where apparently my requirements for enjoying a movie are "do the things the characters do make any sense at all?" and "are the scenes in an order that makes any sense at all?"
People got mad when I said Jupiter Ascending is "fifty times better" than this movie. Even if you disagree with that (which is fine!), you should be able to agree that, at bare minimum, Jupiter Ascending has narrative coherence-- story beats that one can follow, scenes that are placed in an order that moves the story forward, and character arcs that one can track without getting lost in a fog of confusion.
Basically, I want to live in a world where anyone who loves this movie gets as much shit from anyone and everyone as I get for loving Jupiter Ascending. I also want to live in a world where WB gives Midnight Special the Batman v Superman marketing push. My world would be nice.
