Ruth Scouller’s review published on Letterboxd:
Dragon Ball Z gets the Abrams treatment, finding what worked best about the series and giving it the film treatment. Lovingly retro animation with a lot of familiar yet fresh details to delight old fans (although some real-world references feel disingenuous to the franchise world), but as an isolated story it slips insubstantially into the rear view mirror, lacking the verve and originality to make a deep, lasting impression.
Still, it's a solid sequel which shows a franchise pivoting back towards the essentials of its appeal, and I'm glad to have seen this for Haz, as this was a beloved fixture throughout his childhood (it debuted on Australian television in his first days of primary school).
