what to say about Shithouse? Before Snooze-rise, Lady Bored, 13th Grade? Just because it’s easy to spot the influences in this movie doesn’t mean it’s good.
The dialogue in this movie is a prime example of the Barnum Effect. It’s vague enough to be relatable but makes for such blank characters. There’s no specificity here. Jesse and Celine, these too are not! Like yes, we all know freshman year was cringe to some extent. Congrats on making that observation.
Another entry in the Please keep Steven Yeun away from barns and ranches for the love of god cinematic universe.

Upon rewatch, I felt as if a third googly eye opened in my mind. It's a beautiful repudiation of nihilism. Once I got over the initial shock of all the maximalist aesthetics, I really found myself invested at the intergenerational drama of it all. It really does lend itself to multiple viewings. I couldn't stop crying this time. Idk maybe the initial hype made me want to doubt this movie's power. But goddamn…
