Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Exceptional acting and powerful, urgent filmmaking propel this true story of racial injustice and political assassination past some script and pacing issues. Kaluuya is mesmerizing as the charismatic Black Panther leader and deserves all the incoming accolades but he also deserved more of the movie. I was glued to the tv for the whole runtime but as the credits rolled I wanted to know more about Fred Hampton and Deborah Johnson(Dominique Fishback). Fishback’s assured but underused performance and the bevy of information relayed during the end credits make a great case for this to of been 3 hours long. A searing film that won’t soon be forgotten but I can’t help think about what was left on the table
