Ryan Laux’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’ve been meaning to watch Carol for the past 3 years, but for some reason never got around to it. I’m so happy I finally sat down and watched this masterful film. It’s an absolutely gorgeous, emotionally powerful 1950’s New York love story. The performances from Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are as good as it gets. They feel so real and honest, vulnerable and sincere. The cinematography is top notch, as is the costume and production design. I haven’t even mentioned the score yet, which is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard. I loved “I’m Not There”, and now need to see more of Todd Haynes catalog, but I can’t imagine any will top this understated masterpiece.
