First off, it’s time to give Jared Hess another go. But more importantly, we need to realize what an untapped talent Jack Black is. He is a treasure. He is capable of things we can’t even understand yet. We need to get this man a star vehicle stat. Call back Linklater, get Baumbach on the phone. Throw Nancy Meyers in there. Let this man get a nomination for an indie spirit award so help me god.

Wait okay: how satirical is this
You watch this movie and can’t help but feel like it’s about a hipster in 2010. They drive these stunning, period piece cars; yet they’re not dressed in 60s attire, they’re wearing urban outfitters. We’re watching discolored 16 mm, but they’re calling each other “dude” all the time.
But the movie makes us spend so much watching them meticulously obsess over detail. We watch them perfect front screen projection. The step off the ladder…
