Part of Hoop-Tober 5.0 (4/33)
"Poor baby, you're starting to lose it."
It's tough to talk about The Thing because it's all been said already. Everyone involved did a phenomenal job but the title of MVP is a tie between Dean Cundey and Rob Bottin.
Obviously this film is gorgeous. Tonight was my first time watching the blu-ray copy I recently upgraded to and it looks incredible, especially the scenes that utilized a flare as the primary light source.
You can't really talk about The Thing without mentioning the effects. I recently learned that Rob Bottin was only twenty-three when this was filmed. I've been twenty-three for less than a day and it's god damn soul crushing to think about how there's a solid chance I'll never do anything worthwhile, ever, never mind anything as impressive as the effects he managed to pull off here.
Can't end on a self-depcricating note. So like, whatever. It's perfect.
