So, SO close to perfection. Some of the visuals were almost too ambitious for me and kind of took me out of the story. Nevertheless, this was an insightful and kinda harrowing look at what it means to be alive, conscious, etc. All the big questions. Whether intentionally or not, this story (and by extension screenplay) owes a great debt to Lovecraft.
This went so hard. Let’s redo The Revenant and drop a Predator in that bitch. The dead animals felt a bit excessive but the cinematography, acting, and even the CGI were all very well done. Despite the outrageous backlash I’ve been seeing, this did not feel “woke” at all. If having a female lead makes a movie woke then I guess Nymphomaniac also qualifies lmao.
“Maybe we’re at war with Norway.”
One of the most based movies of all time. The practical effects have more than stood the test of time, the acting is superb, and the screenplay is handled so masterfully that you can’t help but share the team’s paranoia. Lovecraft has never been done more justice on screen.
