Impressive entry in the figuring it all out genre. Really love the vignette style but think the chapter markers are silly. I don't really think the last third works for me story wise but emotionally it really pulls it together. So I guess that's a feat. I just preferred the more naturalistic first half to the chaotic and eventful last third.

A heavy lift for Renate Reinsve but she is incredible in the lead role. Her happiness, frustration and pain are all fully felt and realized in her character.

So impressed by the horror filmmaking involved here.

In addition to the action staging, the large scale battle sequences and the intimate interior movements I was enthralled by the way Kurosawa handles the moments before, during and after the appearances of the witch. Just great stuff all around.

Yamada and Mifune give such different performances but absolutely nail them.

This is dumb and fun and a good time. It doesn’t live up to the comedy in the front half. Then it gives way to focusing too much on the already belabored plot but enough of the character charm sticks around.

    Alana Haim is spectacular.

The specificity and detail throughout are awesome. Not just the physical environment but the emotions explored as well.

Consistently funny, except when we get some cool racist jokes that serve no purpose.
