Sadie Sanchez’s review published on Letterboxd:
I lost my abuela recently and to say that Yang-Yang's letter at the end destroyed me would be an understatement. It's hard to think of anything substantial or insightful to write about this film (that already fits both those adjectives) as the tears are still flowing. But I will say this: Yi Yi is slice of life filmmaking at its finest. The kind of film that values humanity above all else. I'm sure I will revisit this a year from now, and for years after that, and each time I will be touched by something new.
Thank you, Edward Yang. You are truly a master. Your legacy will be felt for generations. We miss you dearly.
