i find it difficult to talk to people - most particularly, nonjews - about harmful traditions in sects of judaism. they take it to mean all of jewish religiousness. as such i went into this very apprehensive of that representation. there’s a tendency to villify religious jews - blaming piousness has always felt like a cop-out to me - it doesn’t address the root cause of violence. there’s often much more at play - often misogyny.…
