    Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping

    ★★★★

Patton has a way with descriptions and creative similes. His writing is maybe his best talent. This special is pre-Trump, so his political material is pretty minimal. We get so bombarded by politics in everyday life now, I like when comedy can give you a break from that.

Jen Kirkman: I'm Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine)

    ★★½

The opening skit was decent. Once she hit the stage it took awhile for it to get going though. The first 10+ minutes were pretty dull. The middle chunk on marriage was my favorite. This special had no business being 78 minutes though.

    Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

    ★★★★½

There's a lot to love about Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Michael Cera's comedy chops and Edgar Wright's hyper-stylish directing are the biggest take-aways. This movie was made right as nerd culture was exploding into the mainstream. Finally seeing it now - I really enjoyed it. It's funny, fast-paced and full of spunk.

    Star Wars

    ★★★★★

I watched 2001 a few nights ago, which made me want to revisit Star Wars (1977) because they use a lot of the same visual fx techniques. However, the sound design in Star Wars may be its most brilliant aspect. Think of all the unique sounds that we associate with it. This movie is dynamite every time - no matter what you analyze.
