Films where people travel through time (duh), but there has to be a causal mechanism outside of known science. So for example the original Planet of the Apes (1968) is out of contention as the time dilation due to travelling at near light speed is at least plausible physics, as is being cryogenically preserved to wake up in the future in films such as Demolition Man (1993). Movies like Run Lola Run (1998) are excluded as there it's not clear that Lola is time travelling, it's more just that's she's given a mystical do-over in her life that day. Arrival (2016) and Slaughterhouse Five (1972), where it's only the perception of time as linear that breaks down, are likewise disqualified. Finally "seeing" into the future either by technology such as Minority Report (2002), or by magic in It's a Wonderful Life (1946) are not real time travel.
