    Mushi-Shi

    ★★★★★

An anime from 2005 which follows a traveling doctor who observes occurrences of life-spirits (mushi) throughout the Japanese countryside. This is maybe the most calming TV show I have ever seen. The music is calming and mysterious, and the "Sore Feet Song" which opens the show is great. The scenery depicted in this show is tranquil, with it focusing on nature and small villages of pre-industrial Japan. There is no unifying story, and each episode follows its own particular anomaly…

    Cowboy Bebop

    ★★★★★

Throughout my journey of watching TV and anime, I have continually seen this show recommended both as a great show for its time, and as a good starting point to get into anime. After watching the series, I have to say, Cowboy Bebop is a near-perfect show. It is a combination of fun, wacky, thoughtful, and emotional. Every frame feels so affectionately made, with huge amounts of detail for even the briefest of settings. The show runs episodically, with both…

    ★★★★

Not normally a huge fan of OVA’s but Mushi-Shi has been a godsend of a show, and I enjoy nearly every one of the vignette-style stories, including Path of Thorns. Mushi-Shi, especially in its first season, is not worried about overarching story, ambitious stakes, or visual spectacle. It tells a Japanese folktale on its own terms and is smart enough to never make the protagonist of Ginko the main character. Instead, him and the audience hear a sad tale and…

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

    ★★★★½

Rewatched on the big screen, The Last Crusade is a giggling fun ride of a film, and is a great demonstration of the Spielberg/Marshall/Lucas blockbusters of the 80’s and 90’s. I had forgotten a lot about what happens in this film, and I was surprised how silly and laugh out loud hilarious it was. The choreography is insane and seeing/hearing that tank battle across the desert was amazing. At the point when the tank first roles out and we hear…
