Samcrom’s review published on Letterboxd:
For me, it is the most difficult and confounding Tarkovsky. Dark, lonely, melancholic. A dream of yearning. Lost in dense fog (of memory, time, faith)... a slow, wandering journey through the misty mind of an injured soul; a soul sodden and saturated with all the dampness of unbearable longing.
It is not the end of the world that is coming, but the end of the soul— sinking away in sulphurous waters, locked away in stone tombs that masquerade as houses, fallen in fragments to be forever disjointed... simply, profusely, cast away from home.
