    The Dead Don't Die

Not without its good moments but it's just so meta (or something), which is to the detriment of the film as a whole in my opinion.
This should have been right up my street on paper but it just didn't click. The Sturgill Simpson early reference is a warning of how it's going to be.
With the pedigree involved, a real disappointment as it descends into whimsy.

Really well written and acted family drama, loosely seen through the eyes of the teenage son coming to terms with the reality of his parents.
Small town Montana looks picturesque under Paul Dano's debut directing, but the real drama isn't the fire but the floundering relationship between the excellent Mulligan and Gyllenhall.
Bill Camp is brilliant support as usual. Ed Oxenbould is great also as the son torn between parents.
Surprised to see it on Netflix so soon but well worth finding the time for.

Every year I give a metaphorical award to the film I have seen with my cinema pass that I really wish I hadn't bothered with.
Last year that went to Pacific Rim Uprising.
I think this is in the box seat to win this year.
So the moral of the story is if Del Toro has backed out of a franchise avoid like the plague.

    Fahrenheit 451

    Just so disappointing.
Maybe my hopes were too high with the pedigree of people involved but, for me, it just never caught fire.
