The strange way that you start out absolutely hating Sam and end up finding him to be the most tolerable in the film by the end of it was impressive. He doesn't become a better person, there's no moral tale, he's already amazing at being himself. He knows what he's doing, is certain about who he is, and makes no attempt to be otherwise. It takes a full cast of conniving, rude, annoying, foolish people to make you see how he's the best of the bunch.
No chemistry between Sam and Brigid whatsoever, just wasn't believable. Joel Cairo was my favorite, what a strange little man.
