To the Wonder ★★★★

Sadly, this is style over substance in ways in which Malick's commitment on delivering fluid visuals completely reveals the little, basic plot that is buried underneath. I am a huge Malick fan, but I feel as if here, either too much may have been cut (I miss you Jessica Chastain even though your part was small) or that he has flicked the switch and gone full Malick in his filmmaking (I'm unsure whether this is a particularly bad thing), evolving from the perfect balance employed in The Tree of Life to an over-reliance on hitting that perfect sweeping motion, or symphonic compositions, or having his actors simply stand and stare.
