“Serenity comes when we stop wishing we had a different past.”

There is such tragedy in watching someone fight against inevitable change, grasping for what little they can hold on to as it quickly slips through their fingers. This is so much about accepting change and loss, and living with the grief of that. And the catharsis and serenity found in its surrender.

So much to unpack here... toxic masculinity, loneliness, religion, repression, manipulation, Greek mythology (?). You could have a wildly different interpretation to me and I’m sure I could agree with it.

Just like The Witch, Robert Eggers’ attention to historical detail is second to none and somehow this film feels exactly like one from the 1890s should.

Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe for best lead and best support, just saying.

Could talk about how beautiful this was visually but at the end of the day it’s still a rich white woman living vicariously through the experiences of REAL impoverished and downtrodden people, pretending that she’s in any way on the same level as them. Feels manipulative and exploitative to me.

The real magic was seeing David Bowie show up in an explosion of electricity.

  • Columbus

Every time it cut to a new shot I was floored by the composition and how architecture is placed within the frame. And then I instantly got excited for however the next shot would look because they were all THAT good. Stretch that out over 104 minutes and that was my experience with Columbus.
