This makes an interesting companion piece to PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. Both are movies about graverobbers from outer space and both don't make much sense at all. But where PLAN 9 suffers from the incompetence of everybody involved, PHANTASM works as a surreal, atmospheric piece of horror, where the often nonsensical dream logic was intentional and is supported by a young director, who really knew what he was doing.
BTW, I don't know what the movie looked like before, but man, that restauration that JJ Abrams did is motherfucking glorious! Even watched in SD Quality, this was the best looking 70s movie I have ever seen!
