So many filmmakers tried to give movies an authentic dreamlike feel, but Besson nailed it here. Not by surreal visuals or huge fantasy set pieces, but by telling a story, that somehow makes sense, but then doesn't. It's full of random moments that seem connected to a larger story, but for the most part seem like parts of different movies. It's the filmic equivalent of "Wanna hear the weird dream I had last night?"
