Scream 3

Scream 3 ★★

This franchise is a big ol’ bowl of comfort food for me but gaaahhhh this one is such a let down.

On rewatch, I did find a few things to appreciate. I love that Sidney is working as an anonymous woman’s counsellor. I liked that Sid still wears the necklace she was given in the previous movie. I think her arc is really good and the best part of the film. I enjoy the scenes on the sets of Woodsboro. The only new character I liked was Parker Posey’s Jennifer; I think she did a great job.

I think all of the sleazy Hollywood producer stuff is obviously still relevant today and the strongest part of the film’s commentary. I mean that piece of 🤬 Weinstein literally produced this movie .

Other than a couple of cool character moments, the third instalment throws logic and sense out the bloody window. So many convoluted contrivances and convenient things happen that are absolutely mind boggling. I am able to let stuff like this fly over my head but here it’s obvious because there is no spark or imagination. It just feels cheap and stupid.

Speaking of cheap, this movie commits so many fake jump scare sins, which I loathe 90% of the time.

I’ve oddly been pretty positive here but man is this thing dumb and lacking that magic that the first two had.
