Sam Thompson’s review published on Letterboxd:
Sound of Metal is an incredibly personal and intimate journey with a man who loses the ability to enjoy what he loves most. Through what is basically the best sound design I have ever heard in a film, we are put right into Ruben’s shoes and his heartbreaking plight.
Riz Ahmed is phenomenal and completely disappears. Words cannot do him enough justice. The writing is fantastic and knows all the right moments to hit. What a truly magnificent debut for Marder who has crafted a powerful, immaculate and bittersweet experience.
Sound of Metal is a breathtaking film that concludes in the most perfect and beautiful way.
