Midsommar ★★½

Disappointed: I had the highest of hopes reserved for this film, and sadly it came nowhere close to my expectations. Florence Pugh was absolutely superb, she absolutely bossed it. And Ari Aster proved he is one to watch, with a beautifully-paced, delicately unfurling opening act, some fantastic camera moves and some great moments.

But the film was too long, too indulgent and it was guilty of the cardinal sin of horror films (irrespective of their high brow intentions): it just wasn’t anywhere near scary enough.
