Us ★★★

There’s stuff to dig into here about race and class and privilege and the dispossessed, but it’s all hanging on a pretty flimsy narrative that felt like All the Things That Freaked Jordan Peele Out When He Was 11. And some of it was legit freaky. I loved the flashback stuff which had me doing the horror movie thing where I was like “I don’t think I want to be here right now” and in general it was always cleverly, effectively and often beautifully shot. But the tone never felt quite right. Loved the family dynamic stuff which felt very authentic, but all the more comedic moments post-things-getting-real felt out of place.
