Tintorera is a threesome romance first and a shark movie second. At least, that's what it works best as. It portrays beautiful coastal Mexico as some kind of swingin' adult playground, so the vacation vibes are off the charts. The relationship between Miguel and Steve was interesting and not something you see every day, with Susan George as girlfriend #4 between them, no less. New favorite cinematic love triangle? Maybe.
The shark attacks, when they occurred, were really good, using mostly real sharks and real gore (animal organs possibly). The horror might've been even more effective if the film hadn't constantly showed us how easy it is to kill a shark with a single shot; it could've been more tense as a whole.
Unique. I liked it a lot.
