I watched this for the first time today. It’s honestly not as bad as I have somehow been told it would be all these years — a joke about two gay men who were also cowboys. I’m not sure if I’m just naively taken by many of the specifically designed to make you cry about gay suffering scenes, but their love still felt real, sincere, and earnest nonetheless.
most of us will never achieve complete acceptance from our families, especially when you come from countries like mine. desiree akhavan understands what it's like to live in-between. in-between looking up to narratives of white queer progress while still embracing that your culture isn't there yet. in-between loving your family and knowing they will never be okay with who you are. i loved this film so much.
