A gigantic portrait of an embittered nation rotten by tragedies and the effects of its own hubris, presented in the microcosm of an odyssey across Los Angeles through the eyes of a man who otherwise would be the sane and straight character but is just as disturbed and unhinged as the rest of its world.
Still much like reality, Packard eschews traditional filmmaking and storytelling in favor of utter chaos by way of maximalist audio and video post-production effects, wading his way through the city's societal hellscape, and bringing to the screen a haphazard nightmare sometimes a little too uncomfortably familiar even thousands of miles away.
Out of Gaki no Tsukai's troupe, Hitoshi Matsumoto has always seemed the most "out there" out of the five, so it's no surprise that he is the one who concocted this unexplained, absurd, perhaps even abstract, tale of a man (Matsumoto himself, donning wig and pajamas) stuck in a white room with only cherub-penis-shaped switches to "guide" him to a possible exit.
