Lace Crater

Lace Crater ★★★★

aka STD: Spectrally Transmitted Disease

Harrison Atkins is one of the most talented young filmmakers working today. While this is his first feature, he has made a startling amount of brilliant short films from our shared time at Northwestern University to the present. In particular, his student short film WITHIN AND WITHOUT comes to mind as when I was first aware of the silly and yet sensitive approach that defines his filmmaking. In the case of the short, it is a dreamy, heartwarming tale of wanton masturbation. LACE CRATER is no different: a hauntingly memorable movie about a first - and last - time. Cautionary tales are rarely as lovely as this one.
