One of those rare films from a great director that is actually underrated. My memory of La Strada and The Nights of Cabiria is somewhat dim, but Il Bodine seemed superior to those two films.
An unusually structured film that starts out with a focus on three characters, and then as the story progresses some of the characters peel off and we are finally left with just one character's story.
This is a story of con men/shysters that are at the margins of their "profession", let alone the margins of society. Richard Basehart is very good as the married hustler with dreams of being a painter, and Broderick Crawford is also good as the older con man that is going nowhere and knows it.
