    J.A. Bayona's well intentioned direction doesn't entirely sustain the absolute ridiculous aspects of the script. It forgets its characters and treats them as super humans at the same time—whilst running even faster than lava or some of the dinosaurs.
    Even when the internal sctructure works as a movie, the shortcuts are just a bit too short to even care. Plus, Giacchino is unnecessary loud here.

    Needs more of the water dinosaur—I'd watch an entire film dedicated to that one.

    There's just something that resonates so much with these characters that I just want to spend all my time watching them have their normal lives. Like, I understand the appeal of the action, the stakes, and so forth, but the simple things of discovering themselves or even having arguments between each other simply elevates the material so much more. That's why the villain stuff here, albeit very consistently crafted, is just the hook to give…

    There are a couple of things that don't end up working as much as the film wants them to work, but it mostly achieves a great sense of thriller within, and an interesting character study. Though not always sure if it's an ensemble piece or just the leads journey, it definetly builds towards the former. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Michael Shannon are terrific here.
    And that initial credit sequence... what?
