Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru

Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru ★★★★

This documentary is a glorious, truthful, powerful clusterfuck of a film.

It's tough to feel bad for anyone that's willing to pay $5K for Robbins' one-week Date with Destiny seminar aimed at transforming his or her life. Fortunately, this film gives you a taste of it. It obviously doesn't give you Robbins' entire program, but this film gives you everything else. Good, bad, bullshit, truthful, insightful, inspirational, corny, energetic, manipulative, desperate, intriguing, uncomfortable, emotional, etc., etc.

I don't know if this film will transform people. But at least, Robbins doesn't seem like a charlatan or a power hungry, money hungry, sycophantic narcissist. We get to see a man who busts his ass non-stop and developed a rare skill armed with a huge bag of tricks and a man who built his own institution to try and help others change their lives, whether they deserve it or not. Robbins may live a life of luxury, but he says it's his obsession to help others. That's not a bad addiction to have. And thankfully, he doesn't use God, JC or any kind of religion.

I get the sense that Robbins and his clients deserve each other...in the best way and sometimes not so best. Yet, he doesn't seem to leave anyone behind, even the hundreds of people that work for him. In the end, they all win.
