Yes, it was paced slowly, but it’s more than that. Everything in the entire movie - from the colors to the costumes to the performances to the dialogue - just seems so muted. It’s extremely dull, and it honestly just seems unartistic. Maybe unartistic is the wrong word...more like uninspired.
This isn’t really mind kind of movie, but I was at least hoping to get something out of it. I didn’t. It’s not offensively awful, but it’s just so bland.
Technically speaking, You Were Never Really Here was nearly perfect.
The editing, cinematography, sound design and score were all amazing, and there were some really bizzare and exaggerated visuals that were unique and interesting. Phoenix was great, really giving layers to what could have been a simple character. The little quirks he had just made him so intriguing and fun to watch. Whenever there was a moment when he was really charming, there would be one right after that was…
