The In-Laws

This couldn’t exist more precisely at the border of 70s and 80s comedy if it was born at 11:59pm on New Year’s Eve, 1979. On the one hand soaked in wild-man characters with scenes bordering on domestic violence and lots of location shooting, on the other fulfilling the “everybody’s a winner!” ethos of the decade to come with cartoonish villains and cheap gags. It’s an interesting case, and often threatens to devour itself, but Arkin and Falk ground it every step of the way.
