An American Pickle ★★★½

A slightly higher-brow Encino Man with a little bit of Being There and Borat for good measure, this smarter-than-necessary comic bauble wrings all the laughs and social commentary it can out of a silly premise and gets it done under 90 minutes. Rogen is a delight in the dual role of a Polish Jew revivified after 100 years and his underachieving great-grandson, and of course there's money to be made selling artisanal garbage pickles in Williamsburg.
