    Priority Watchlist 2024 (14/60)

Early unhinged Scorsese which shows none of the mature flare of these later days… but I mean that in a good way because it couldn’t be more different and unique apart from something like Killers of the Flower Moon.
Might be the closest of Marty’s to After Hours with its hangout movie energy. Not necessarily a bad thing just a different vibe.

Features some great performances, such as De Niro’s character… who is just something else in this…

    Poor Things

Ever wondered what an insanely gorgeous exploration of woman’s liberty in the trappings of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and the heroes journey story archetype would look like? Well, director Yorgos Lanthimos has delivered us a vision on these very ideas! Poor Things is a breathtaking journey into woman’s liberation, roles in society and the darker sides of life. And my god… what a truly impressive odyssey this film is!!

And to think I was going to say Barbie had the Oscar for…

    Jodorowsky's Dune

😆 Could somebody please get me some of whatever the fuck Alejandro Jodorowsky is on?!!? Seriously though, I can’t tell if this dude is a goddamn madman, having a perpetual acid flasback, or just a fucking film genius!

Jodorowsky’s Dune is a fascinating look at what this would-be seminal film might have been from Mexico preeminent art house director. A look at an alternative vision for the first crack at Frank Herbert’s seminal science fiction story!!
    This documentary beautifully explores…

    Priority Watchlist 2024 (18/60)

So the first two theatrical experiences from 2024 were both off-beat weird comedies about eccentric women giving the middle finger to the establishment. Similar to Lisa Frankenstein, I really feel like this one also won’t be for everyone. That being said, I also had a similar reaction to this one: It was a fun little Friday night flick, but nothing special.

Drive Away Dolls is the first solo-directorial effort for Ethan Coen, and I think this film…

Recently re-watched Dennis Villeneuve’s epic first chapter in his Dune sci-fi saga.
When I saw this in the cinema back in 2021 there was a shit ton of hype around this feature! I didn’t really know what to expect beyond going in with sky-high expectations to have my fuckin’ socks blown off. And I was a bit lukewarm on it if I’m being honest. With all that being said, back in 2021 I would have given this 3/5. As you…

    Before Sunrise

Richard Linklater’s filmography is an interesting one to say the least. After watching Dazed and Confused and the odd Suburbia recently, the gf and I sat down to watch this breezy, well acted and very well directed romance flick.

All that being said, I think this is definitely a movie that won’t be for everyone. After all, the runtime is mostly taken up by dialogue between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. Thankfully, this screenplay is a goddamn banger! It’s very well…
