This was my first time seeing Mean Streets and I really enjoyed it, especially because I'm pretty unfamiliar with the career of Harvey Keitel. He was great of course, as was Robert De Niro. More than that, while I have seen other early Scorsese movies, seeing his breakthrough film was super fun! The needle drops, the editing, the location, the characters--all part of his voice really coming through and you can see so clearly how this a source of influence for decades. I have to admit though, I did get a bit fatigued around the 18th time these young angry Italian men suddenly lunged swinging at each other in a dusky bar.
