I thought this was going to be a film about someone trying to balance a bunch of accounting sheets, but this was cool too — even though it was the film equivalent of completing a bunch of side missions for secondary characters in a video game.
a 149(?!) minute teaser trailer with no substance, soul, or stakes. it’s amazing that it took disney marvel ten years to create a compelling superhero film with conflicted heroes, a strong cast of diverse and nuanced secondary characters, and a villain with a justified backstory and motive for their actions. that movie is black panther. this one is a waste of time covered in cgi and a bunch of a-list actors who are laughing off the check they cashed in.…
If not anything else, the reception to Solo, and Lando’s character in specific, will provide Disney with the response needed to give his character his own film. That’s great, since Disney doesn’t have the gall to green light that on their own volition.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, and thought that Alden and Donald both did a good job of channeling the characters they were playing. Really glad to see a blockbuster hit its marks considering the abject misfires I’ve seen…
